SECG webinar shares tips for grant applications

This week, the AAG Student and Early Career Group (SECG) held a webinar to help early career researchers navigate the grant application process.

The forum was facilitated by SECG committee members Dr Mae Lim, Dr Nagarajan Manickaraj and Ms Shin Liau. Sharing their experiences and insights in this webinar were:

Dr Emily Reeve, Senior Research Fellow at Monash University, whose achievements include receiving an AAG Research Trust 2019 Strategic Innovation Program grant and being a senior member of the Research Trust Grants Committee;
Dr Michael Lawless, Research Fellow at Flinders University and recipient of a 2020 RM Gibson grant made available by the AAG Research Trust, who shared his journey and top 10 tips for research grant writing;
Dr Meg Polacsek, AAG's Communications, Advocacy and Grants Manager, who presented the perspective of the AAG Research Trust.

A recording of the webinar is now available on AAG's online library.

A quarter of the AAG's total membership is made up of student and early career members. Whatever their role, SECG members share the goal of improving knowledge and understanding of the many factors that influence and contribute to the experience of ageing

AAG is proud to join NATSIAACC

In a previous Thursday Three, we shared news of the inaugural 'Ageing at the Centre. Putting Elders and older people at the heart of our work' forum held in Mparntwe Alice Springs in late May 2023. Today, we want to formally acknowledge the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing and Aged Care Council (NATSIAACC), who was a co-supporter of this event.

The purpose of NATSIAACC is to ensure Elders and older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access support and care that is culturally safe, trauma aware and healing-informed. Key objectives for NATSIAACC include:

  • Advocating for improvements in the ageing and aged care sector which will benefit Elders, older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled providers
  • Being a council of excellence in the provision of ageing and aged care services by providing leadership, best practice and conducting research
  • Providing education, training and other services to support and assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led providers and other organisations which deliver services to Elders and older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

NATSIAACC's members are ageing and aged care providers, and organisations with an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led care who support NATSIAACC's objectives. AAG is proud to be an associate member of NATSIAACC

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day online forum

On Friday 16 June, Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) will host its 18th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) conference.

With the theme of 'Elder abuse: Perception vs reality', this year's event will explore the gap between what older people actually experience, and their understanding (or perception) of those experiences.

The event will be online only and is free to attend. Program details are on the ARAS website. Register here.
